When to Start Paying Back Student Loans

For Stafford loans, you have to start repaying the loan about 6 months after you graduate or withdraw from college. However, there are also options where if you decide to return to school, repayment can be deferred.
For a Perkins loan it is about the same only the period is longer by 3 months so a Perkins loan would need to receive payments after about 9 months of graduation or withdraw from college.
Federal Consolidation Loans will need payments immediately after you leave school through either graduating or withdrawing. There is not a grace period.
As for Parent PLUS loans, parents will have to be making payments on the loan immediately after it begins. However, if the parent, too, is in school then it would be eligible for deferment and they would have to go to the source for more information.
As for the rest of the loans from other lenders, the terms and conditions may very from one loan to another and you must go to the source of those loans in order to acquire the necessary information about the particular loan.
