What should my major be in college?
What major should I be in?
Many students ask themselves this same question over and over.
Try to major in something you love reading about and studying. This will make it a lot easier on you as opposed to getting into something in college that you really hate after a semester of classes.
Check out the university career center for advice on career paths in college. There they have books and resources, resume building skills, interviewing advice, internship and summer job information, advisors and mentors on the subjects and even interviews for possible jobs later on.
If you find a love for a subject, follow it. the sooner you go after it, the easier it will see as you won’t have to backtrack or regret a thing…unless you choose to.
make sure you look into all of the internship opportunities available. This can also help you make the decision based on what opportunities are available then narrow it down to your favorite path.
Remember that most people don’t really stay on a path until their later 20’s and even then many people change career paths. Changes like these are a big part of life. College helps you prepare for the changes.
Seek out alumni’s and see what they have done so far out of college and how they got there.
Try to keep an open mind for all the subjects. Try not to simply narrow your choices down to travel and tourism major just because you like cruises.
Remember that in the long run this occupation/field of study will be something you will have for the rest of your life. Make it something you are passionate about and could do for the rest of your life. Also, if any changes occur, maybe pick something that could accommodate any changes in jobs in that whole field.
