South University Online College

South University Online College is the online degree program of South University, a university founded in 1899 as Draughton's Practical Business College. South University Online College offers Associates, Bachelors and Masters degree programs. The online program is designed for adult students and offers the same classes and curriculum as South University's on-ground campuses in Georgia, South Carolina, Virginia, Alabama and Florida.

The parent company of South University is Education Management Corporation (EDMC), one of North America's largest providers of post-secondary Education. EDMC is known for its focus on career-based programs. EDMC campuses include The Art Institutes, Argosy University, and Brown Mackie College as well as South University. As of Fall 2008, about 110.000 students were attending an EDMC degree program.

At South University Online College, students can obtain a degree while maintaining a full-time job or a busy family life. Classes can be completed in five weeks, allowing students to earn degrees at an accelerated rate. South University provides interactive online classrooms, student forums, professional and industry contacts, and career counseling services. The flexibility of South University's online program, where students can take classes at any time of the day or night, allows students to enroll who might not otherwise have the opportunity to attend college.

Other well-known colleges that offer online degrees include the University of Phoenix, American Intercontinental University, Cappella University and Westwood College. The University of Phoenix, founded in 1976, may have the oldest and largest private online university in the United States. Many schools offer degrees entirely online, geared specifically towards older, working students. The University of Phoenix Online, for instance, requires that students be 22 and employed.

South University Online College's curriculum is unique because it offers an identical curriculum to South University's on-ground campuses, and allows Online College students to participate in the graduation ceremony at the Savannah, GA campus.
